World shares gain as Scotland poll eases nerves
LONDON (Reuters) - European shares edged up and
sterling rose from multi-month lows on Thursday after a poll showing
most Scots intend to vote against independence next week alleviated
concerns over the United Kingdom's future.

The number of Americans filing for unemployment
benefits unexpectedly rose last week to a two-month high, interrupting a
steady decrease to the lowest level since before the last recession.
The Eastman Chemical Company agreed on Thursday to
buy the Taminco Corporation, a maker of specialized chemicals, for $1.7
billion in cash, becoming the third owner of the company in the last
three years.
Markets on Wall Street opened lower as shares of
energy companies slipped. World stocks were also lower as investors
tried to estimate when the Federal Reserve might start raising interest
rates.
RadioShack's mission—to shrink like crazy—hasn't
been accomplished fast enough. The ailing electronics retailer admitted
Thursday that it may not be able to avoid bankruptcy.
