CBO forecast of 1.5% growth lower than Obama's
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Congressional Budget Office
on Wednesday forecast that the U.S. economy will grow by just 1.5
percent in 2014, undermined by a poor performance during the first three
months of the year.

Burger King says its merger with Canadian
donut-and-coffee chain Tim Hortons is about growth, not tax rates. In
fact, Burger King's CEO said he doesn't expect the merger to produce
"meaningful" tax savings.
NEW YORK (Reuters) - U.S. stocks were flat on
Wednesday as investors found few reasons to extend a rally that has
taken indexes to repeated records, even though market valuations were
not seen as unduly stretched.
Christine Lagarde, the head of the International
Monetary Fund, said Wednesday she has been placed under official
investigation for negligence in a long-running French corruption probe
dating to her days as France's finance minister.
Russian courts have ordered four McDonald's outlets
to close for 90 days, citing breaches of sanitary rules. The Moscow
restaurants were initially told to close on 21 August after criticism
from the Russian state food safety watchdog Rospotrebnadzor.
Insurers can no longer reject customers with
expensive medical conditions thanks to the health care overhaul, but
there's still wiggle room for them to discourage the sickest and
costliest patients from enrolling.
